Focus Leadership Institute Courses
Christian Worldview Studies
How do we apprehend Truth and what we do with it? In answer to that question, this course undertakes a comparative study of worldviews, or those underlying sets of presuppositions that shape people’s approach to life. You will be challenged to identify and examine the tenets of your own worldview and those of the culture you live in. Our hope is that you will walk away from this course saying, “It never is just a movie, book, article, lecture, etc.,” and that you will be able to discern the philosophy being communicated by any medium you encounter.

Family, Church and Society Studies
From theory to practice, Dr. Del Tackett’s Family, Church and Society course will challenge you to consider if "you really believe that what you believe is really real." You’ll get a big-picture view of God’s design for the social structures of family, church, state, labor and education. And you’ll be pressed into action and asked to evaluate whether your life matches what you say you believe.

Marriage and Family Life Studies
What relationship has had the greatest impact on your life? Who will influence your parenting skills the most? Marriage and Family Life Studies begins with the assumption that students tend to approach marriage and parenting in the same way their own parents did, unless they are challenged to think critically about their families of origin and course-correct where such correction is needed. Theory, biblical wisdom and practical advice are intertwined to lead students on a journey of self-discovery and purpose-setting for the future.

Gender and Leadership Studies
One area of serious confusion in today’s world is that of gender identity. Young leaders seeking to have a positive impact in today’s culture struggle with the idea of leading strongly and successfully as a man or woman of God. As a result, many young people find themselves paralyzed in their roles. In answer to this cultural conundrum, this class explores the issues of gender and leadership and the relationship between the two. The course brings together teaching on the nature of gender as it is expressed biblically, and teaching on practical manifestations of gender identity in the students’ future leadership roles in the family, church and society.
Professional Practicum Studies
Are you ready to apply what you have learned? FLI gives you the opportunity to practice your formal classroom training in a real-world environment. Students attending the fall or spring semesters will be given the opportunity to intern at Focus on the Family or within the Colorado Springs community in their field of study.
